An
in-depth analysis of projects accomplished by MSB&A. Case Studies
are designed to state the problem to be solved and then detail the
efforts by MSB&A to design and implement a solution. Also noted
are innovations that may have been developed and employed by MSB&A
engineers.

Chevron Chemical Company – Oronite Additives Division (Oak Point) – On Plot Co-Generation Project
The original electrical utility power supply of the Oak Point Plant was provided by a dual-ended residential feeder, which was prone to outages and poor overall service. M S Benbow and Associates was contacted due to their knowledge of the Oak Point Plant’s electrical distribution system to determine how the electrical utility supply could be improved. The Scope of Work for M S Benbow & Associates included consultation on preliminary design, electrical analysis of the facility (and existing plant), protective device coordination, and startup assistance. The project start date was 7/98 and the projected completion date is 9/99.

Chevron Chemical Company – Oronite Additives Division (Oak Point) – Off Plot Co-Generation Project
In 1999 Chevron Chemical Company installed an electrical co-generation plant at its Oak Point Plant located in Bellechase, LA to improve the reliability and decrease the cost of electrical power to the site. Additional projects were required to improve the plant's existing electrical distribution system in conjunction with the Co-generation Project. These projects included modifying the existing plant distribution feeders to get power from the new co-generation facility and a load preservation system which would preserve the integrity of the generator sets during transient conditions. M S Benbow and Associates was contacted to perform these projects and coordinate them with the on-plot co-generation facility projects. The Scope of Work for M S Benbow & Associates included the design of the existing distribution feeder modifications, preliminary design consultation for the entire plant load preservation system, and the off-plot load preservation system. The project start date was April 1999 and the projected completion date is April 2000.
