Chalmette Refining LLC – Satellite Building 6 TDC Upgrade
Provided installation design services for the conversion from Honeywell TDC2000 DCS hardware to Honeywell TDC3000 hardware. Satellite Building 6 houses the control equipment (1200 points) for the Amines, SRU #1, SRU #2, Boilers, HDS, BRU, and Sour Water Stripper operating units. The TDC2000 equipment was older technology, difficult to configure for Advanced Controls and had been exposed to H2S. This gas had corroded the card edge connectors and resulted in intermittent failures. Engineers designed a plan to install new equipment in the existing Satellite 6 building, cut-over new equipment around pre-planned shutdowns and in some cases, during production. Engineers also interfaced directly with the TDC configuration contractors to finalize I/O addressing in parallel with controller configuration. MSB&A provided detailed engineering documentation such as loop sheets, wiring diagrams and a loop wiring database.
  
 
Chalmette Refinery, L.L.C. - SRU ESD Replacement
Critical PLC’s performed shutdown functions for two parallel Klaus Process Sulfur Recovery Units. Project replaced network of Modicon PLC’s in field with two triple modular redundant PLC’s in environmentally controlled, free-standing building located outside of battery limits. Project included designing new equipment building and under-road cable crossing (85 cables). Designed new structural steel for cable tray supports. Designed wiring systems using existing field terminal boxes with new terminal blocks. Converted and streamlined Modicon logic to TMR code. Conducted Factory Acceptance Tests at vendor facility, developed system checkout procedures. Supervised field installation and performed systems checkout and startup. System installation was executed on each SRU train down while the other train was running without unintended shutdowns.
  
 
Monsanto Company - 14,000 TPD Ammonia Plant Interlock System Upgrade
Relay based shutdown system was replaced with Allen-Bradley redundant PLC5 controls. Interlocks were changed to fail-safe design. Supervised construction activities during compressed schedule. Executed checkout and startup of unit after construction.
