American Melamine Industries - Westwego Plant
Provided engineering and design services to upgrade the dust collection system of the product handling and warehouse bagging operations at specialty chemicals manufacturing facility utilizing both dense and dilute phase conveying systems. Scope included design of process flow diagram with equipment specification for the installation of piping, equipment and instrumentation to alleviate unacceptable levels of dust contamination within the bagging facility. Equipment included conveyors, dust collectors, blowers, compressors, and screw conveyors. Major operational problems included product build-up or “clogging” of the vent system piping requiring operations personnel to hammer components to dislodge product. Product “bridging” within the storage silos also inhibited maximum production capacity requiring the addition of vibratory equipment to aid product fluidity and transport. Specific engineering detail was expended to accurately specify every system component including valves, diverters, blowers and instrumentation to ensure a successful and maintainable collection system.

CYTEC Industries - Hydrolizer Stripper Upgrade
MSB&A developed detailed plans and specifications from conceptual process information for a Hydrolizer-Stripper unit in ammonia production. The project involved developing heat and material balances, general arrangement layouts of equipment, piping, and facilities, and process equipment specification. Specifics of this project include precise layout of the stripper column, reboiler and accompanying process equipment for optimum performance with duplex stainless steel piping design. The scope also included detailed project scheduling and equipment-factored project cost estimate.
