Events Support United Way, Special Olympics, STEM education, Hurricane Harvey Relief
Metairie, La.—December 18, 2017—From rappelling down a building and participating in SWAT training to cooking up gumbo to lacing up their bowling shoes, M S Benbow & Associates (MSB) employees pitched in for several charitable initiatives and a donation drive supporting the special needs community, United Way, Hurricane Harvey relief, and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education programs.
MSB competed for the second year in the St. Charles Battle for the Paddle Jambalaya and Gumbo Cook-off Event benefiting United Way of St. Charles. The cook-off featured more than 20 teams serving up their secret recipes for gumbo and jambalaya for community members at Dufresne Community Center.
MSB team members also hit the lanes to bring home a First Place win during Core Element’s 7th-annual Strike for STEM fundraiser at MidCity Rock N’ Bowl in New Orleans. MSB is a sponsor of the Strike for STEM event and participates in other initiatives by Core Element which include development opportunities for middle school science teachers, STEM camps to engage students in STEM activities, and classroom robotics programs. Core Element is a regional collaborative between K-12, higher education, economic development, and business and industry institutions committed to improving the caliber of math and science education in our schools.
The New Orleans engineering consultancy offered a company match for employee donations to the American Red Cross as part of the agency’s relief drive after Hurricane Harvey devastated areas of Houston.
In December, MSB engineers and support staff put together a team for a special operation, NOLA Over the Edge: SWAT Edition, to benefit Special Olympics of Louisiana. M S Benbow was a main sponsor of the Over the Edge fundraising venture, which challenged participants to rappel 25 stories down Benson Tower, take a helicopter ride over the Mississippi River, and engage in SWAT training with the finest at the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Training Facility.
MSB employees are engaged in a variety of charitable initiatives and organizations, including the United Way of Greater New Orleans, Habitat for Humanity, Children’s Hospital, and Special Olympics, along with several workforce development and regional economic development associations.
