Fire Code Requirements For Public Safety Radio In-building Coverage Seminar

Session outlines emergency responder radio coverage requirements

METAIRIE, La.–(March 29, 2018)–M S Benbow & Associates and Anixter, Inc., will present a seminar on “Fire Code Requirements for Public Safety Radio In-building Coverage” to provide insight into national and local in-building public safety radio design requirements for systems that provide wireless service for first responders.

The presentation takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thurs., April 12 at IP Casino Resort & Spa, 350 Bayview Ave., Biloxi, Miss. The seminar will focus upon important public safety trends and strategies required for a successful distributed antenna system (DAS) deployment. It is open to building developers, operations personnel and Telecommunication / IT professionals in healthcare facilities, public buildings, higher education institutions, and public safety personnel in charge of overseeing code enforcement.

Public safety radio communications are critical infrastructure. New building construction projects and existing buildings must contend with expanding emergency responder radio coverage (ERRC) requirements to improve public safety communications in the event of an emergency.

Public Safety Radio Requirements

In-building wireless public safety systems are quickly becoming mandatory due to the implementation of legislation standards by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the International Fire Code (IFC). The mandates include a minimum radio frequency coverage requirement for general areas as well as enhanced coverage of areas such as exit stairways and passageways, elevator lobbies, and fire pump rooms, to ensure police, firefighters and emergency medical personnel can communicate in the event of a fire or other emergency response incident. Highly skilled telecommunications design and installation personnel are required to ensure proper installation and system performance to meet new and emerging ERRC requirements.
