MSB Engineers Serve as Judges for First Lego League Robotics State Championship

60 Teams Compete in Head-to-Head Robotics Competition Supporting STEM Education

METAIRIE, LA. —(March 24, 2020)— M S Benbow & Associates (MSB) engineers and technical staff volunteered as judges for the Louisiana FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) Robotics State Championship (RSC). MSB’s staff interviewed and observed teams of middle school students competing in the robotics tournament, which took place Jan. 18 at Jesuit High School in New Orleans.

FLL offers an opportunity for students aged 9-14 to design, build and compete with a robot constructed of LEGOs and to investigate a challenge associated with the annual competition theme. The 2019/2020 FLL City Shaper challenge focused on creating innovative solutions to help cities and towns shape an optimal future using our environment and modern-day tools and technology.

MSB’s Food and Toy Drive Brings Comfort to Local Families at Holidays

Thanksgiving Meals and Holiday Gifts Deliver Cheer to Families in Need

METAIRIE — (Dec. 31, 2019) — M S Benbow & Associates employees came together to deliver holiday joy to New Orleans families in need, adopting families to receive the bounty of the engineering consultancy’s Thanksgiving food drive and Christmas toy drive.

MSB collected items to deliver a full Thanksgiving meal to six families who are clients of Travelers Aid Society New Orleans, a nonprofit committed to helping homeless or stranded families and individuals regain a self-sufficient lifestyle. Employees provided donations, which included turkeys, stuffing, side dishes, desserts, gift cards, and cooking and serving supplies. Continue reading

Battle for the Paddle Jambalaya Cook Off Benefits United Way of Southeast Louisiana (SELA)

CHALMETTE, LA. —(Dec. 13, 2019)—M S Benbow & Associates (MSB) team members took home the championship paddle during a charity cook off at Chalmette Refining – PBF Energy benefiting the United Way of Southeast Louisiana (SELA). Team MSB was declared the winner during the 10th-annual Battle for the Paddle jambalaya cook off against more than 15 teams made up of contractors and employees at the facility.

MSB Teams with Bienville Capital to Pitch in to Fight Hunger

Employees Volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank’s Harahan facility

METAIRIE, LA. — (November 26, 2019) — M S Benbow & Associates (MSB) employees teamed with Bienville Capital in volunteering at Second Harvest Food Bank to help fight hunger in Southeast Louisiana. The volunteer group worked in Second Harvest’s Harahan-area facility to help package retailer food donations for distribution to families in need.

Leo L. Holzenthal, Jr., P.E., Named to Core Element Board of Directors

Nonprofit Supports Educational Curricula to Inspire Interest in STEM Fields

METAIRIE, La.—March 7, 2019—M S Benbow & Associates (MSB) President Leo Holzenthal, Jr., P.E., has been elected to the board of directors of the Greater New Orleans STEM Initiative (GNOSTEM), formerly Core Element, a non-profit dedicated to promoting quality teaching in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) in the Greater New Orleans Region.

Holzenthal has more than 30 years of experience in Power, Control Systems and Telecommunications Engineering and is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations at the engineering consultancy, which operates two offices in Greater New Orleans area, Houston and Dallas with more than 100 employees. Holzenthal is an adjunct professor at the University of New Orleans College of Engineering. He earned the 2015 James M. Todd Technological Accomplishment Award from the Louisiana Engineering Society. MSB Team Participates in United Way of St. Charles Parish Cook-Off

Jambalaya, Gumbo Recipes Compete in Battle for the Paddle

METAIRIE, LA. — October 16, 2018— M S Benbow & Associates (MSB) returned for the third-consecutive year to compete in the 2018 Battle for the Paddle Jambalaya and Gumbo Cook-Off benefiting the United Way of St. Charles Parish.

The MSB team faced off against 155 other family, business and industry teams competing for the titles of “Best Jambalaya” and “Best Gumbo” during the 17th-annual charity cook-off. All of the food prepared during the event was served to community members of the Dufresne Community Center.

MSB Engineers Mentor Regional FIRST Robotics Competition Team

METAIRIE, La.–(March 26, 2018)–M S Benbow & Associates engineers served as mentors for a robotics team competing in the 27th-annual FIRST Robotics Competition Bayou Regional, a high school regional event of teams from Louisiana and Mississippi taking place March 23-24 at the Pontchartrain Center.

The FIRST Robotics Competition is a nationwide competition that teams professionals and young people to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way. The program, called FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), is designed to engage students in “real world engineering” and discovery while also providing experience with project management, deductive reasoning, business planning, public speaking and working together as a team.
